August Passive House Rocky Mountain Round Table

Jacob Racusin of New Frameworks Natural Design/Build will be joining us as a guest speaker to present on how we can advance climate justice through the development of the built environment, and how our industry can partner with allied industries in agriculture and forestry to find solutions to social, ecological, and economic problems.

Jacob’s presentation will examine the theory of embodied carbon emissions and carbon storage in materials, the wide range of carbon storing materials available now and those in R&D phase, and the global potential for carbon storage in the built environment. We will present data-driven (both modeled and case-study) real-world, market-proven material solutions to create high-performance carbon-storing buildings. Strategies will be identified for both residential and non-residential projects, throughout different parts of the design process, using different tools.

New to the roundtable?

We're on a mission to support and grow the building science community in the Rocky Mountain West. Creating a platform for discussion and connection between professionals working in high performance design and building in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada.

Call into our Zoom meeting with Lindsay Schack of Love|Schack Architecture and Andrew Michler of HyperLocal WorkShop, who are building the Passive House Rocky Mountains chapter of the North American Passive House Network (NAPHN) for a brief introduction to Passive House concepts, an update on recent project progress, and a look forward at advancements in building industry policy inspired by the PH community.

This is the fifth monthly meeting to share knowledge and discuss challenges, so bring your questions! We look forward to strengthening this community through this platform, so we’d love to hear your feedback as to how we can improve each session.

CRES Speaker Series: "The Healthy Side of Zero-Energy: High Performance Building"

  • 1536 Wynkoop Street Denver, CO, 80202 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

In this presentation, Enrico Bonilauri from EMU Systems will speak about building related health issues caused by poor design and construction. By taking the approach that buildings are first and foremost for humans, building professionals can ensure that comfort, hygiene and durability are addressed in new construction and especially in energy retrofits. With the right strategies and tools, high performance building can mean healthy building.

Andrew Michler will lecture on the Passive House building system as a Global Phenomenon. Andrew is a Certified Passive House Consultant and designer. He developed the first certified International Passive House in Colorado, which is the state’s most energy efficient home and has been on the cover of international architecture magazines and covered extensively in design media. Developed in Germany but utilized around the world, Passive House refers to a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy efficiency for any type of building to significantly reduce its ecological footprint. The standard is also about improving a building’s comfort well beyond what is typical in even “green” design.
